A History of Modern Solutions

BCL was originally set-up in 1959, under the name of Blunt Brothers. It was established by five brothers: Brian, The oldest photograph of Blunt Brothers - circa 1969David, Ronald, James and Tony Blunt. It worked mainly in the domestic market and undertook small developments throughout the Meon Valley area. The company dissolved in 1976 and Blunt & Company was formed between Brian Blunt and Kevin Blunt (father & son). The company began to move away from the domestic market into the industrial market and established a loyal client base that we still continue to serve today.

The partnership continued until 1998 when Brian Blunt retired and the company was reformed to a limited company - Blunt Construction Limited. The current owners are Kevin Blunt, Colin Brooks and Vivienne Brooks. To this day, it remains a family company - Vivienne and Kevin are brother and sister.
Blunt Construction Limited continued to consolidate its customer base and improve the company to provide a well-appointed construction business suitable for the new millennium. In 2001, the company relocated to its current premises at The Old Fire Station, providing excellent transport links to the motorway network.

In 2002, BCL also acquired specialist surface preparation equipment, adding to the company’s capabilities. This equipment utilises a dust-free vacuum blasting mechanism which can be used in occupied buildings to minimise disruption when enhancing the preparation of multi-substrate surfaces. This preparation provides an excellent surface to accept the application of maintenance solutions provided by Belzona, MC-Bauchemie, 3M, Thortex, Stirling-Lloyd and Anti-Slip, for which BCL are authorised applicators.

A strong emphasis on employee training and continual improvements with Blunt Construction Limited has enabled the company to achieve Investors in People status in 2002 on its first attempt. In 2003, BCL was awarded the Business Excellence Through People award from Winchester City Council. In 2004 and 2007, BCL successfully received re-accreditation to this status.

More recently, in 2005, the enlargement of The Old Fire Station commenced, to accommodate the growth of the company and completion was achieved, as programmed, with the formal ‘occupation’ on 1st December 2005.

In 2008, BCL achieved another training milestone by receiving the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), the Gold Award for Training. Accreditation was also achieved by inclusion on Constructionline, Exor and Bid to Win pre-qualification lists.

In 2009, Blunt Construction has been busy helping the young and the not-so-young, donating their free time to help two important charities. Both the Winchester Scouts and Intouch Support, an organisation dedicated to working with people who need help to live independently, have recently been benefitting from Blunt Construction’s Community Support Projects.

Throughout this time, BCL’s reputation has continued to grow as the leading construction problem solvers in the South of England.
